Courses: Wednesday, 18:30-21:30 & Saturday, 10:00-15:00

Currently, the Enrollment Form is only offered in the greek language. If this causes you any difficulties, please contact us for further assistance.

The programme offers participants the opportunity for scientific training in coatings and its proper application. It is aimed at  professionals with a direct or indirect relationship to coatings, who want to update their knowledge and be familiar with techniques in preparing surfaces and applying coatings, respecting the environment and their own health and safety. IoCT with this program cover the long-term gap in the education and training of the engineers and scientists.

Due to the specific needs of the training subject and the practical involvement, the maximum number of participants is set at 15 per training programme, in order to achieve the highest level of educational services and the participant gains the most out of the whole process.

Training Modules

The aim of the first module is to introduce basic concepts, definitions and terminology of coatings. The most common physical properties (density, viscosity, color-shade, etc) will be explained. Finally, the coatings are categorized, according to their physical and chemical properties.

By the end of this module, the participant will be able to:

  • to understand the basic physicochemical properties
  • use basic methods to measure coating properties
  • use the correct terminology
  • recognize the basic components of coatings and their use
  • categorize coatings.

The aim of the second module is to introduce the various substrates, where the coatings are applied. Understanding the basic properties of these substrates (wood, metal, cementitious, etc.). Tools and preparation techniques. The different types of coatings and their application techniques.

By the end of this module, the participant will be able to:

  • recognize key properties of substrates
  • organize the preparation of the surface before application
  • use surface preparation tools properly
  • identify the coating system to be applied.

The aim of the third module is to encounter the defects during application. The technical data sheets are explained and analysed. Introduction to the most important physical properties of the coating that affect the application, the conditions and the recoating process. Participants compare these data with the requested application to minimize the likelihood of failure. Focus on common problems and failures. Presentation of preventing techniques and solutions to problems and failures. Emphasis on quality control of tool and application materials. Finally, the use of standards is noted and the importance of verification and certification is highlighted.

By the end of this module, the participant will be able to:

  • use of Technical Data Sheets (TDS)
  • compare the data from the TDS with the desired result and the application conditions
  • calculate basic parameters for the application
  • check the quality characteristics of materials and tools
  • recognize failures and imperfections
  • propose and implement prevention techniques and corrective actions
  • use of coating standards

Educational methods and program

The proposed programme implements the Blended Learning model which includes:

  • Live training (28 hours)
  • Distance Asynchronous e-learning method (22 hours)

Considering the importance of the practical demonstration to the participants and the application in laboratory conditions, most of the training will take place live.
The twenty eight (28) teaching hours will be implemented in seven (7) sessions of four (4) hours each, two (2) sessions each week. Each training session will have theoretical and practical part.

All participants will receive Certificate of Attendance.

Pre-requirements

  • Secondary school graduates
  • Internet access
  • Possession of personal e-mail
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to participate. Part of this training will take place on Saturday.

Cost

The total training cost is €500,00
The participation cost can be covered by the Professional Training Programme for Employees (LAEK) of the Greek Manpower Employment Organization.
